The Wade & Gatton Hosta Farm Tour

On July 16, 2005 the MVWGS went on a tour of the Wade & Gatton Hosta Farm in Bellville, OH. We caravaned north to Sunbury, OH where we stopped for a nice lunch at Bob Evans. An hour later we arrived at the Hosta Farm. The drive up to the main building was absolutely beautiful. We traveled up a long, wooded, uphill drive with hostas planted around each tree. At the top of the hill was the main building, a house built in the 1800's that was part residence and part business. Beautiful gardens of hostas and daylilies surrounded the home. We were welcomed with a table complete with cold drinks and cookies. A tour of some of the gardens conducted by Vern Wade followed. After the tour there was ample time to pour through the many greenhouses filled with ferns, hostas and daylilies as well as other perennial plants. Right before leaving we were taken to an area where many plants had been placed and invited to select a free plant to take home. It was a lovely day enjoyed by all!
